TAL Training is an established training body, providing professional instruction by DSA registered Driving Instructors to a wide variety of transport and logistics companies, agencies and individuals throughout our region. Our Aim is to provide value for money training and to use vehicles which are compatible with what is generally used though out the haulage industry. TAL Training works in conjunction with South Yorkshire Transport and Logistics Group promoting Driver and Logistic training. TAL Training has been the fore runner in improving the profile of the transport sector training and has delivered successfully a number of funded pilot projects that has enabled further funded programmes. TAL Training has worked closely with the unemployed encouraging job opportunities and addressing the driver shortage. C1 (NLGV) Pre Requisite 18 years of age. Objective To train Category B (car licence) holders up to test standard enabling them to take the Practical LGV C1 (7.5t) driving test. Course Content Driving lessons up to test standard. Ratio 1 instructor to 1 student. Duration Subject to driver assessment. Normally 16 - 20 hours training. Qualification NLGV Category C1 full driving licence. LGV Category Theory Test C (LGV) Pre Requisite 21 years of age. Objective To train Category B (car licence) holders up to test standard enabling them to take the Practical LGV C driving test. Course Content Driving lessons up to test standard. Ratio 1 instructor to 1 student. Duration Subject to driver assessment. Normally 20 hours training. Qualification LGV Category C full driving licence. C + E (LGV) Pre Requisite:21 years of age. Objective: To train category C holders up to the test standard enabling them to Course Content: Driving lessons up to test standard. Duration: Subject to driver assessment. Qualification: LGV Category C+E full driving licence. DRIVERS HOURS & TACHOGRAPH REGULATIONS Pre Requisite: General Education. Objective: To understand the rules and regulations regarding tachographs. Course Content:Driving hours: Daily, fortnightly, daily and weekly rest. Four and a half hour rule. The Tachograph: The chart, centre field, manual entries, distance traced, the ODO, the mode switch + return of charts. Duration: 4 hours. Qualification: Certificate of competence. HEALTH & SAFETY FOR LGV DRIVERS Pre Requisite: None Objective: The intention of this course is to provide the driver with essential knowledge and understanding of Health & Safety in the work place. It will enable the driver to contribute to improving your organisations Health & Safety Working Practices. Course Content:The learning will be tutor led with interactive discussions and a multi choice examination paper at the end. Understanding Employers and Employee’s Responsibilities Identify the key elements of Health & Safety, the Law and practical implications in the work place. Identify hazards and the principles of Risk Assessment. Reporting of potential hazards. Ratio 1 instructor to 12 students (maximum). Duration: 1 Day Qualification: Safety Awareness Certificate. CRANE ATTACHMENT LORRY MOUNTED (HIAB / ATLAS) Pre Requisite: 18 years of age. Objective: To instruct in the safe operation of a lorry mounted crane to the recognised standards. Course Content: Health + Safety. Operating procedures with sling and brick grab to recognised standards. Duration: 1 day. Qualification: Operating Certificate (ITSSAR). DEFENSIVE DRIVER TRAINING Pre Requisite: Driver in possession of a suitable licence for the category of vehicle being driven during the training. Objective: To assist and advise the trainee’s driving techniques, capabilities and general good driving practices. Addressing: Health & Safety Vehicle Sympathy Vehicle Economy & Route Planning Load Securing & Stability Course Content: Initial road drive followed by classroom theoretical concepts, then a second road drive with feedback. Ending with an assessment on the driver’s attitude, behaviour, hazard awareness and knowledge and understanding on the high way code. Duration: 4 Hours Qualification: Certificate of Attendance NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Pre Requisite: Appropriate Licence to drive the vehicle Objective: To demonstrate good driving practices covering both theoretical and practical concepts relating to road safety, load safety, vehicle sympathy and being a professional driver. Course Content: The course is work based assessment. Driver assessment on all the units in the qualification with learning and guidance from the assessor. Includes Induction and one or two road drives in company vehicles Ratio 1 instructor to up to 1 trainee (maximum). Duration: 3 months Qualification: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Driving Good Vehicle or NVQ Level 2 in Delivering Goods by Road. SAFETY OF LOADS ON VEHICLES Pre Requisite:None Objective: The intention of this course is to provide the driver with the essential knowledge and understanding of how loads are safely and securely fastened using different restraining techniques and vehicle suitability. Identify the key elements of the vehicle condition for different loads and general safety checks. Identifying possible hazards and understanding the principles of Risk Assessment. Course Content: The learning style will be instructor led on a practical basis and will include: Basic Health & Safety Cab Mounting and Dismounting In cab seating position Vehicle safety checks Airlines and electrics Load distribution Safe working loads of restraint equipment Coupling and uncoupling (Class 1 only) Ratio 1 instructor to up to 3 trainees (maximum). Duration: 1 day Qualification: Certificate of Attendance FORK LIFT TRUCK Pre Requisite: 18 years of age. Objective: To instruct in the safe operation of a Counter Balance and Reach vehicles. Course Content: Health + Safety. Operating procedures of the vehicles. Written and Practical Tests. Duration: 5 days. Qualification: Operating Certificate (ITSSAR). TRAIN THE TRAINER Pre Requisite: Driver in possession of a suitable licence for the category of vehicle being driven during the training. Objective: To train the nominated driver to the standard required in order to take the DSA LGV Voluntary Registered Tests. Course Content: The course involves both driving and classroom training and covers good driving practises and standards from basic principles and covers: Driving assessment followed by driver skill training plan Route planning for practical training Training techniques and teaching methods Assessment techniques and lesson planning Report writing Health & Safety and risk assessment In depth knowledge of the theory test and hazard perception Vehicle safety checks and sympathy Duration 40 hours Qualification Certificate of Attendance FUEL ECONOMY SEMINAR – COMPANY / DRIVER Pre Requisite: None Objective: The seminar is designed to cover, the most important aspects of fuel saving in the haulage industry. Course Content: Fuel Monitory, Fuel Champions, Effective Analysis, Success Rates, Routing & Scheduling, Aerodynamics, Driver Development & Vehicle Specification.
